She sat calmly outside the Swedish Parliament, put up the sign "School Strike For Climate" and also boycotted her school. The idea was to get the politicians' attention and motivate them to act to prevent the global warming. Swedish media covered Thunbergs protests and pushed the word about her protest. Then the strike, thousands of students embraced the movement #FridaysforFuture. They stayed home on Friday to demonstrate against the effects of climate change. Climate activists from across the world coordinated the Global Strike for Climate. The event was hugely successful. There were more than 1.6 million participants from more than 125 countries took part.
